Pipe Band History

The Crossed Swords Pipe Band was formed in 2007 by Piper David Moir
at the suggestion of Major General Mungo Melvin OBE.

Highlights have included performances at the British Military Musical Show,
the NATO Musikfest and for the German Government.

The band continues to go from strength to strength under David Johnston
who was appointed Pipe Major in 2009.

We are now looking forward to taking part in the 2010 Moscow Tattoo
and the 2011 Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo.

In honour of the founder and first Pipe President - Major General RAMS Melvin OBE Late Royal Engineers,
the band has adopted MacDonnell of Keppoch tartan (also known as Government Tartan No. 26)
which was worn by his Personal Piper, P/Sgt DE Moir RE, 71 Engr Regt RE.

It is the Regimental tartan of 71 Engineer Regiment Royal Engineers
to which the Crossed Swords are extremely grateful for their continued support.
